Andrew Webber Named CEO of National Business Coalition on Health
Washington, D.C. April 23, 2003 The National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) today named Andrew Webber its new president and chief executive officer. Webber brings nearly 25 years of experience in health care policy to NBCH, which provides expertise, resources, and a voice to its 90 member business coalitions representing 7000 employers and 34 million lives across the country.
Webber, who will assume his new role June 9, comes to NBCH from his position as Vice President for Public Policy at NCQA. Webber previously served as Senior Associate for the Consumer Coalition for Quality Health Care, the Executive Vice President for the American Medical Peer Review Association, and Vice President for Public Policy for the Washington Business Group on Health. Mr. Webber received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University.
Mr. Webber has lectured and written extensively on health care policy issues. He was formerly a member of NBCH's National Health Leadership Council.
"Andy brings to this position an understanding of consumer issues, a broad knowledge and appreciation for the importance of quality measurement, experience with the employer community, and a clear understanding of public policy," said Becky Cherney, board chairman of NBCH. "We are enthusiastic and excited that Andy has decided to join us as we seek to advance NBCH and promote and support value-based purchasing."
Through public and private partnerships and market-based reform strategies, NBCH and its member coalitions seek to improve the value of health care provided through employer-sponsored health plans while encouraging community health reform. This "coalition of coalitions" lends expertise to local groups on how employers buy health care, how employers pay for health care, how employers manage health care, and the changing roles of health care stakeholders.
In recent years, NBCH has pursued national purchasing initiatives to offer turn-key health care products and services to community coalitions and their member employers. With this focus on pragmatic tools that yield measurable results, NBCH works to make local coalitions the vehicle for meaningful change in the health care system.
"I am excited and humbled by the opportunity to join the National Business Coalition on Health as President and CEO," Webber said. "The NBCH membership represents a tremendous asset for advancing health system reform through value-based purchasing and collective employer action. I look forward to the challenge."
