WASHINGTON and PHOENIX – November 10, 2011 – The National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH), a non-profit organization of purchaser-led business and health coalitions, presented Intuit Inc. with the Employer Excellence in Value-Based Purchasing Award and HealthCare 21 Business Coalition (HC21) with the Value-Based Purchasing Membership Award this week at its annual conference. The recipients were recognized for their leadership and efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of the health care delivery system, control health care expenditures at the community level and improve the health of employees.

“We are very pleased to recognize Intuit as a leading employer and industry innovator in advancing the health and productivity of its workforce and for its community-based efforts,” said Andrew Webber, NBCH President and CEO. “We are also honored to highlight the efforts of HC21 as a NBCH member coalition for implementing successful value-based purchasing strategies in the communities it serves.”

Intuit

Intuit received The Employer Excellence in Value-Based Purchasing Award sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems.

Recognized in part for Choose Wellness for Life, Intuit’s wellness program designed to educate employees and their covered dependents about general health, providing tools and resources to enable them to take the necessary steps toward disease prevention and early detection. Through the program participants are encouraged to complete a Health Questionnaire to improve engagement to better manage their health. Additionally, fitness incentives and programs, biometric health screenings and access to onsite fitness centers are provided.

“It is an honor to receive the award and have Intuit’s work recognized by our peers and NBCH,” said Lynette Hamel, Health and Wellness Benefits Leader at Intuit. “Managing health and wellness is truly a partnership with our employees. We are on a journey together to take action, save money by making smart health care decisions and live better.”

HealthCare 21 Business Coalition

NBCH presented the HealthCare 21 Business Coalition with its 2011 Value-Based Purchasing Membership Award sponsored by AstraZeneca. A non-profit member driven organization committed to improving the quality and cost of health care in Tennessee and the surrounding region, HC21 was recognized for its work as a community leader to reduce health care costs and improve quality.

“HC21 has been a catalyst for health improvement in Tennessee by innovating and implementing strategies and methodologies necessary in the emerging health benefits market,” said Jerry Burgess, HealthCare 21 President and CEO. “Our strategy is to assemble all health care stakeholders to improve the purchase of health benefits; to advance the quality of health care delivery improving the system; and ultimately the health of the community. We thank NBCH for recognizing our efforts and greatly appreciate this honor.”

Among the many programs implemented by HC21, the coalition is a Regional Roll-Out Leader for The Leapfrog Group focused on evaluation and public reporting of hospital quality and safety. The Coalition developed a comprehensive Data Cooperative tool, a first of its kind, to house employer medical claims, pharmacy claims, health risk assessment, biometric, attendance and leave data to allow employers to set actionable goals and benchmarks. The coalition also manages a Pharmacy Benefit Management program bringing competitive prescription pricing to Tennessee resulting in millions of dollars saved on drug costs, and has been instrumental in developing business coalitions in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

Additionally, Becky Cherney, former President and CEO of the Florida Health Care Coalition, was honored with the NBCH Lifetime Achievement Award.
