Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program: An NBCH Endorsed Program

Background:
The Leapfrog Group was created in November 2000 by leading U.S. employers and coalitions and was shaped by a 1999 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report that up to 98,000 Americans die every year from preventable medical errors made in hospitals. Leapfrog began collecting data in 2001 by asking urban and suburban hospitals to complete the Leapfrog Group Hospital Quality and Safety Survey in six regions of the U.S. NBCH has been a member organization since nearly the beginning and President & CEO, Andrew Webber, currently sits on Leapfrog Group's Board.

The Leapfrog Hospital Rewards program is a pay-for-performance program designed to recognize and rewards hospitals for their performance in both the quality and efficiency of inpatient care. The program was designed to be a natioanl program that is implemented regionally. For more information about the program, please click here

NBCH's Board of Governors endorsed the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards program in 2006 after a recommendation for endorsement by NBCH's Value-Based Purchasing Committee. NBCH promotes the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards program to our membership as value-based purchasing program that they should consider.
