Jan founded Health Intelligence Partners in 2008 as a health care consultancy that blends twenty five years of business and clinical experience. Health Intelligence Partners focuses on healthcare business strategies and solutions in order to maximize client outcomes. Her work focuses both within the United States and internationally, with a list of clients that include health care consumer organizations, medical devices, drug and diagnostic manufacturers, healthcare private equity companies, healthcare focused advertising and communications companies, healthcare technology companies and disease management/ health improvement organizations and large employer coalitions.

As former Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for CVS Caremark (1999-2008), Jan was a member of the executive team for the organization. Over a ten year period this team led the organization through three mergers and acquisitions which resulted in an $80 billion dollar, Fortune 20 healthcare organization with more than 190,000 employees throughout the United States. She was responsible for policy and strategy for all clinical aspects of the organization including pharmacy benefit services, specialty pharmacy, Medicare Part D, disease and health management and health information technology. She also had responsibility for the P&L for Caremark’s health management programs. Dr. Berger was also responsible for taking a leadership role in representing CVS Caremark at a variety of national health care policy forums during her tenure. Prior to coming to CVS Caremark, Jan had 15 years experience in healthcare administration within the health plan and academic arenas.

As the recent author of the book “Leveraging Health” and the Editor in Chief of American Journal of Pharmacy Benefit and on the editorial boards of a number of healthcare journals, Jan is considered a national health care thought leader. Jan speaks and writes on a broad range of health care issues. She also serves on numerous health care boards and committees and has published over 100 articles and publications.

Dr. Berger is a “black belt” in Six Sigma, designating her as a team leader responsible for implementing process improvement projects within business to increase customer satisfaction and business productivity.

Dr. Berger holds both a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Masters degree in Jurisprudence from Loyola University in Chicago and a Certificate in Healthcare Business Administration from University of South Florida. She is also an assistant professor at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Evanston, Illinois.

Mary Beth Buchholz, Vice President, Government Affairs, Neimand Collaborative

In 2005, Mary Beth Buchholz joined Neimand Collaborative, bringing with her years of political, advocacy and public policy experience with particular emphasis on health care policy. Her background contributes to Neimand Collaborative’s government affairs work and the firm’s strategic communications portfolio. From 2007 through 2009, on behalf of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Mary Beth and her colleagues organized and managed a multi-stakeholder initiative known as Better Health Care By Design. The program’s sought to tackle the multi-faceted problems associated with high out of pocket costs for people with chronic conditions and promote value-based benefit design solutions. In collaboration with Dr. Jan Berger, Mary Beth led a group consisting of employers, unions, insurers, patient advocacy groups, and providers to produce a cogent materials, videos, and education tools to help employers determine the best value-based approach for their employees.

Mary Beth holds a B.A. in political science and history from North Dakota State University and an M.A. in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University.
